Lesson 7 : How to ask someone's name
| What is your name? |
| (o na ma e wa) |
| My name is Tom. |
| (wa ta shi no / na ma e / wa / to mu / de su) |
Notes
Change 私の into 僕の if you are a boy.
Example:
| My name is Tom. |
| (bo ku no / na ma e / wa / to mu / de su) |
お名前は? is not a full sentence. You can be more polite in a full sentence:
![]() | お名前 は 何です か。 | What is your name? |
| (o na ma e / wa / na n de su / ka) |
名前は? is still ok, but sounds rough and rude. Do not forget to put お at the start all the time.
Advanced
Use the sentences below if you need to be much more polite.
| Would I be able to ask your name please? |
| (o na ma e / wo / o u ka ga i shi te mo / yo ro shi i de su ka) |
| My name is Tom. |
| (to mu / to / mo o shi ma su) |
